OMG that happened. Never would have guessed.

Sometimes science works and sometimes it doesn't.
In both cases we'll tell you what happened, what worked and what went wrong.

Misadventures in Data Collection: How the Social Observatory came to be

Before there was a Social Observatory, there was still social experimentation. But without the facilities and tools we have now, it went hilariously awry.

This is the story of the best laid plans of mice, men, and social experimenters

Hold before you swipe. Why first impressions are misleading.

We spend large portions of our waking hours communicating with others. While the possibilities for conversation are seemingly endless, how often do we chat about life goals or start conversations with our fears or formative childhood memories? Instead our topic choices dance around the perils of commuting, whining about the weather or wondering about weekend plans.

Find out what happened in this experiment that paired strangers for 45 minutes.

Meeting people at bars — who are we kidding? (just ourselves)

Bars have gotten creative about many things. There are bars with snappy bartenders. A special sour whiskey drink. A secret entrance or 80’s music theme.

However most bars have not innovated on the very thing that they are theoretically designed to do — bring people together. With few exceptions, bars have maintained the same look/feel and business model that was present in the salon days of the wild west.

Find out how people's expectations of bars compare to what actually happens at bar
Run your own experiment

Stay Tuned. We have more coming soon.

REJECTION: We ran an experiment that asked people to get rejected. We will show some directional evidence on how to make rejection easier.

NETWORKING: We ran an experiment that sought to find a better way to 'network'. We didn't get significance, but had a lot of learnings about connection in general.

GOVERNMENT: Once upon a time a communal house decided to change government structures every month and measure what happened. This report will give clues on how humans really want to be governed.
